DESI OLYMPICS 2003 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Entry Fee: $5 per head

IMPORTANT:

Please read the whole e-mail and contact us only if you have further questions. If you are participating, please keep a print-out of this email handy.

FORMAT:

- each team will have 6 players

- a maximum of ONE non-Desi may be included in a team

- each match will be for a best of 3 games

- standard international basketball rules will be followed as far as possible; at the discretion of the organizers, minor adjustments may be made to suit to conditions and limitations of the tournament, which, if any, will be explained to all captains before the start of the tournament.

- format for draws will be decided at the venue depending on the actual number of teams that will show up for the tournament. In any case, EVERY TEAM IS GUARANTEED TO PLAY AT LEAST TWO MATCHES.

Entry fee of $5 per head is payable (in cash) before start of the tournament. Each team's captain is responsible for collecting and handing over the entry fees to the coordinators before the start of the first round games.

- TROPHIES will be given to winners and runners-up immediately after the tournament gets over

REPORTING TIME:

Draws will be made at the courts in front of all captains at 9 AM.

Each captain must be at the ground by 9 AM, and all players must be at the ground by 9:15 AM. Games will start at 9:30AM sharp.

Late-comers and last minute entrees are not guaranteed of a place in the tournament. So, please register early to confirm your participation.

Coordinators will schedule the start time of each match. Each team must report to them before 10 minutes of each scheduled match time.

There are no lunch breaks. We suggest that every one gets their own lunch pack (in the past, people who went out to eat have caused delays to the matches.) It will be at the discretion of the coordinators to scratch a game when a team causes undue delay.

Total courtesy and sportsmanship is expected from all the participants. Use of any foul language, fighting and misbehavior will disqualify a player and/or the team to continue, and also will not be welcome in the future tournaments.

REFRESHMENTS:

Drinks, water and snacks will be provided at the venue by the Desi Olympics.

UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES:

If the games have to be canceled/postponed for any reason such as bad weather, they will be rescheduled for a later date; or if change of venue necessitated, about which we will inform captains at our earliest convenience. Captains will be responsible to inform their team members

If you are part of a team, please let the captain of the team send the entry for you and the whole team to the above email address. This will avoid duplication of entrees.

If you are not in a team or have only a partial team, each player, please send in your entry separately. We will try to form teams from single entrees, if there are enough of such entrees.

Teams can have a couple of substitutes and all subs will have to pay their entry fees; However, the number of trophies for winners and runners-up will be six each only. If you win and you want trophies for your subs also, you will need to chip in for that amount to get those additional number of trophies, which will be arranged later in a couple of weeks after the tournament .

DIRECTION TO CANYON CREEK BASKETBALL COURT:

From 183.
Take 183N until it becomes a surfact street. Left on Anderson Mill. (Anderson Mill is the first TRAFFIC light on 183N AFTER it becomes a
surface street). Keep on Anderson Mill for about 2.5 miles till it intersects with 620. (Landmark is an Exxon gas station at the intersection). Turn Left on to 620. The next TRAFFIC light is
Boulder Lane. Turn Left on to Boulder Lane. Landmark is a Chevron
gas station at the corner. Drive about 0.5 mile. Turn Right into the street leading to the Tennis Court/Swimming pool. The basketball court is also at the same place.

From 2222.
Take 2222 West until it intersects with 620. (Landmark is a HEB at the corner). Turn Right on to 620. Travel about 3.5 miles until the traffic light at Boulder. Turn Right on to Boulder Lane.
After this, follow the same directions indicated above.
